Chim-Scan® Factory Training Overview

The goal of the C.S.F.T Chimney Scanning course is to enhance the camera operators' skills and develop a working knowledge of the scanning process, including how to use the camera equipment and provide photographic examples of commonly found defects seen in the field. This program is based on two books we have written. If you are a Chim-Scan® User, The Chimney Scanning & Inspection Guide, is best because it contains product information, usage, and tips. If you use other chimney scanning equipment, we wrote a slightly different "generic" version called Interior Chimney Scanning for using any scanning equipment. The written and photographic information within these books provide various skill sets using familiar installation types seen in the field as examples.

A chimney resembling a man holds a chimney camera and gives a thumbs up.See-More Chimneys knows that correctly scanning and interpretating chimney findings is essential to doing a successful chimney inspection.
We broke this course down into five installation types:
  • Masonry Fireplace
  • Masonry Fireplace with an Appliance
  • Masonry Thimble Chimney Serving a Solid Fuel, or Liquid Fuel Appliance
  • Prefabricated Fireplace
  • Prefabricated Chimney Serving a Solid Fuel or Liquid Fuel Appliance.

This course prepares the chimney inspection technician to properly operate the chimney camera system through various setups, home protection, PPE requirements, photo samples of commonly seen defects through the many installation types. Along with the course, there is an open book multiple-choice exam, which upon passing, leads to a Chim-Scan® Factory Trained Technician (CSFT Tech) completion package with a certificate, badge and patch. If you are using the version without Chim-Scan® equipment, you can take the Internal Chimney Scanning Test to earn a Factory Trained Technician designation.
Tom teaches a class of five men in a lab with a fireplace, firebox, & chimney.Tom Urban and his staff provide technical training for scanning and interpreting chimney diagnostics. We provide web classes, classes in our laboratory in Iowa, or will train at your location. Tom teaches at events in the chimney industry and home inspector events.
Becoming a CSFT Tech is the training needed to fast-track the chimney inspection learning curve so the techs can properly operate the camera systems and record videos and pictures of healthy chimneys and chimney defects while in the field. This certification puts you a step above your competition, adding an extra layer of professionalism for your staff that your customers will enjoy.

You don't not have to own a Chim-Scan® to take this class and get CEU's.

This class is a foundation for learning how to scan and interpret your findings with any chimney camera. The techniques shown in this class and book are universally useful. We also designed the Internal Chimney Scanning Book to be generic.
